Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen (pictured) downplayed concerns over US Vice President JD Vance's upcoming Greenland trip, calling it a "positive" move in remarks to Danish broadcaster DR on Wednesday.
Rasmussen welcomed Washington's decision to limit the visit to Pituffik Space Base, scrapping earlier plans for stops in Nuuk and Sisimiut. "It's very positive they canceled engagements in Greenlandic society and will only visit their own base," he said, stressing that senior US officials should not engage with Greenland's society unless invited.
He downplayed claims that Vance's visit to Pituffik signaled tougher US pressure. "It's kind of a masterful spin in many ways, to make it look like they're escalating when they're actually de-escalating," he said. Vance announced the visit on Tuesday as a security check, citing threats to Greenland's territory.
