Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and other lawmakers are urging US President Donald Trump to prioritize addressing rising food prices over actions like issuing pardons related to the January 6 Capitol attack, which they argue have no direct impact on consumers.
In a letter sent on Sunday and quoted Monday by NBC News, Warren and 20 Democratic colleagues criticized Trump for failing to fulfill his campaign promise to immediately lower grocery costs upon taking office.
The letter highlights that Trump's initial focus on mass deportations and pardoning January 6 defendants has overshadowed his promise to tackle food affordability. While Trump signed numerous executive orders in his first week, the Democrats noted that only one briefly mentioned food prices without proposing concrete solutions. They emphasized that families are struggling with high supermarket bills and called for actionable steps to reduce costs, rather than symbolic gestures that fail to address everyday economic challenges.
