DoJ appeals order pausing Trump's bid to end birthright citizenship

The United States Justice Department appealed a court order issued by a federal judge that paused President Donald Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship through an executive order.

Trump's order seeks to end birthright citizenship for children born in the US to parents who are not in the country lawfully. However, those opposing the order argued that it stands in direct violation of the 14th Amendment which states that: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdictions thereof, are citizens of the United States."

The case will now move to the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
