The European Parliament adopted Wednesday ten legislative reforms to renew the bloc's migration and asylum policy after a debate of more than ten hours.
The agreement includes rules restricting the possibilities for entry into the EU and set reception quotas to be accepted by each member state to release migration influx pressure from states such as Italy and Greece. However, not all voting members completely agreed on it as France 24 reported that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk refused to comply with the immigrant relocation mechanism shortly after the vote finished.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola expressed on X that the agreement was historical as the EU "have delivered a robust legislative framework on how to deal with migration and asylum […] It has been more than ten years in the making. But we kept our word. A balance between solidarity and responsibility."
