The European Commission announced on Monday that it requested consultations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) to challenge China's investigation into the European Union's dairy exports. China announced the probe in late August claiming the EU's dairy industry receives subsidies in 20 different projects.
The Commission said its challenge was prompted by "an emerging pattern of China initiating trade defense measures, based on questionable allegations and insufficient evidence, within a short period of time." It added that, if the consultations "do not lead to a satisfactory solution," it could request a panel to be set by the WTO to decide the dispute.
