The European Commission launched four new infringement procedures against the United Kingdom on Friday over London not acting to apply Brexit deal requirements at the Northern Ireland border.
The reasons for new actions include the UK's failure to comply "with the applicable customs requirements, supervision requirements and risk controls on the movement of goods from Northern Ireland to Great Britain," and its failure to "notify the transportation of EU legislation laying down general EU rules on excise duties," which the member states and the UK are required to do in respect of Northern Ireland. The latter also refers to alcohol and alcoholic beverages.
According to the EU, the UK also failed to "implement EU rules on Value Added Tax (VAT) for e-commerce, namely the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS)." This comes a month after the two legal procedures the block launched against its former member.
