Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Sikela (pictured) revealed on Wednesday that there is a general agreement among European Union energy ministers about introducing joint natural gas purchases before the summer of 2023.

The measure would aim to strengthen solidarity and savings within the region, he told reporters following a meeting between EU energy ministers. At the same press conference in Prague, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said that gas prices remain unsustainable and that supplies from Russia dropped under 10% at the EU level.

The European Commission is reportedly considering forcing energy companies from the bloc to purchase gas through a joint platform.
