Coveney: Some optimism about Truss government

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney said on Friday that he has "some cautious optimism" about the relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom with Liz Truss as prime minister. He told RTE that he and Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin have been in contact with Truss's team and that there is potential for a "new and perhaps more real round of dialogue."

Prior to becoming prime minister, Truss served as the British foreign secretary and took a hard line on Brexit issues. She also supported the Northern Ireland Protocol bill, which would unilaterally change key areas of the Brexit agreement with the EU.
