The United States and the Ukrainian government have agreed on ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea, the White House said in a statement on Tuesday. The move follows bilateral talks held March 23–25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The talks facilitated by the US government originated from previous discussions between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In the statement, both leaders express their commitment to achieving a prisoner exchange, releasing civilians and detainees, and returning transferred Ukrainian children.
Upon releasing the statement, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rusten Umerov, stressed on X that for these arrangements to be effective, "it is important to hold additional technical consultations as soon as possible to agree on all the details and technical aspects of the implementation, monitoring and control of the arrangements."
