Europe closes with gains ahead of extended break

Major stock markets across Europe closed Thursday's session in the green territory as investors assessed the global economic outlook and the upcoming rate hikes. While the latest data from Germany showed industrial output expanding by higher than expected 2% in February, the ECB's chief economist Philip Lane hinted at another rate increase next month.

The DAX gained 0.50% at the closing bell, with Vonovia SE soaring 5.95%. The CAC 40 rose by 0.12%, as Thales climbed 2.93%. The FTSE 100 jumped by 1.03%, led by Admiral Group's 3.61% jump. The Euro Stoxx 50 expanded by 0.26%.

The euro added 0.15% against the dollar to sell for 1.09214 at 5:30 pm CET, while on the other hand, the pound slipped 0.20% to $1.24374.
