Italian companies exported 0.5% less goods, while imports fell 6.1% in the month of June, when compared with the same month of the previous year. Exports to the European Union countries increased by 1.3% and decreased by 2.8% to non-EU countries. Imports from the EU countries fell 1.1%, and recorded a significant fall of 13.0% for all other countries.
Italy scored an overall trade surplus of €4.7 billion in June: surplus with the EU countries was €1.2 billion and €3.5 billion with non-EU countries.
On monthly scale from May to June, exports to the European Union countries grew by 0.3% while exports to non-EU countries fell by 0.9%. Imports from the EU countries increased by 0.4% and decreased by 0.5% from other countries.
During the second quarter of 2016, exports increased by 2.4% and imports advanced by 1.8%, in comparison with the previous quarter, according to seasonally-adjusted data from Istat published on Thursday.
