French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal (pictured) announced on Sunday that France is raising its Vigiprate security alert system to "attack emergency," its highest level. He said the decision was made after President Emmanuel Macron convened a meeting of the Defense and National Security Council following the recent terror attack in Russia, which killed 140 people.
Attal said the security alert level was raised "given the Islamic State's claim of responsibility for the attack and the threats weighing on our country."
