US reportedly mulls Palestinian state recognition

UNSPLASH / AVEEDIBYA_DEY

The United States is currently exploring the option of acknowledging Palestine as an independent state following the conclusion of the Gaza conflict, Axios reported on Wednesday citing two US officials.

According to the media outlet, US Secretary of State Tony Blinken has requested the State Department to conduct a thorough evaluation and provide policy alternatives regarding the potential recognition of Palestine by the US.

The Biden administration has seemingly connected the potential normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia to the establishment of a Palestinian state, as Saudi Arabia has consistently emphasized that any agreement for normalization would be conditioned upon the recognition of a Palestinian state.
