United States Representative from Minnesota Tom Emmer (pictured front) won on Tuesday the intraparty vote to become the nominee for the post of US House of Representatives speaker.
According to Fox News, Emmer beat US Representative from Louisiana Mike Johnson 117 to 97 in the final, fifth round of voting among House Republicans today.
Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th congressional district since 2015 and has served as House majority whip since January. His fellow Republicans Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio failed to rally enough support from all GOP House members to take the top spot and succeed Kevin McCarthy.
