China to strike back if sanctions target its assets - FM

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian (pictured) stated on Thursday that if the US sanctions against Russia hit Chinese assets, the country "will firmly strike back."

"In handling relations with Russia, the US side must not impose so-called sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction on Chinese enterprises and individuals," warned the spokesman, adding that the measures must not affect "China's legitimate rights and interests."

Earlier, China accused NATO of pushing tensions between Russia and Ukraine to a "breaking point."
