A spokesperson for the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Monday that Germany is temporarily suspending development aid for Palestinians and placing it under review amid escalating violence between Palestinians and Israelis. Germany previously pledged €125 million in support for 2023 and 2024.
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said his government is also suspending aid to Palestinians worth around €19 million. "The extent of the terror is so horrific... that we cannot go back to business as usual. We will therefore put all payments from Austrian development cooperation on ice for the time being," he told ORF radio.
