Taher al-Nunu, who served as a media advisor to the late Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the organization is still open to negotiating the continuation of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange with Israel.
"Hamas has not closed the door on negotiations, but we insist there is no need for new agreements," he said while urging the international community to compel Israel to respect the truce.
Israel resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip as the most recent talks failed, resulting in a high number of civilian casualties, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisting that "[f]rom now on, negotiations will be conducted only under fire."
