Hamas: Biden, Blinken's remarks 'misleading'

The Palestinian militant group Hamas deemed the recent statements made by United States President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding ceasefire talks in Gaza "misleading" as they "do not reflect the real position of the movement," which is "keen" to reach a cessation of aggression.

"These statements come within the framework of the complete American green light for the Zionist extremist government to commit more crimes against defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip, and attempts to liquidate our national cause," the group posted on Telegram on Tuesday.

Hamas "strongly" opposed the new proposal put forth by mediators, referring to it as a "coup" against the agreement reached on July 2, which was based on Biden's own declaration on May 31. Earlier, the incumbent US president said that the group was "backing away" from a deal.
