Hayes substation fire under control

EPA-EFE/ANDY RAIN

The London Fire Brigade confirmed Friday morning that the major fire at an electrical substation in Hayes, which forced the closure of Heathrow Airport, is now under control.

Crews will remain on site throughout the day as investigators begin probing the cause of the blaze.

Firefighters had been battling the fire since late Thursday, with part of a transformer still alight by early Friday. The incident triggered a large-scale power outage, grounding flights and causing significant disruption across London and beyond.
