Category 1 Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday, leaving 300,000 customers without electricity. Power outages continue to be reported in southwestern and southeastern areas of Texas. Winds with speed of up to 128 kilometers per hour were recorded in the Lone Star State.
Previously, Beryl caused the deaths of at least ten people in the Caribbean and Venezuela. After being briefly reclassified as a Tropical Storm, it has since regained the status of a hurricane. The National Hurricane Center said Beryl was "moving inland" and was accompanied by strong winds "battering" the coast.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said at a press conference yesterday Beryl "poses a serious threat for Texans."
