The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Saturday that Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi (pictured) had appointed a high-level external team to examine and implement lessons from the IDF's internal investigations into the Hamas-led assault on October 7, 2023. The move follows a comprehensive weeks-long debriefing process involving testimony from civilians, soldiers, and commanders.

Retired Major General Sami Turgeman will lead the review team, which includes 13 other reserve officers with extensive military experience, including retired generals Amikam Norkin and Eli Sharvit. The team's role is to analyze the findings of the internal probes—particularly those conducted at the general staff level—and to recommend mechanisms for applying their lessons across the military.
