Indian government asked Canada to remove close to 40 of its diplomats by October 10, according to a report by the Financial Times on Tuesday.

The sources cited by the media mentioned that Ottawa was also told that those consular representatives who remain in India after the aforementioned date shall be subject to a suspension of their diplomatic immunity.

If the ban is implemented, tensions between the two countries would further increase after Prime Minister Trudeau linked the Indian government's agents in the murder of Canadian Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
