Iran: Uranium enrichment principle not negotiable

EPA-EFE/TIL BUERGY

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday that Iran is prepared to address concerns and "build trust" regarding its uranium enrichment program but that the principle of enrichment is not up for negotiations. He added that "conflicting" statements from the United States do not help progress the nuclear deal talks. Yesterday, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff said Washington is not looking to dismantle Iran's entire nuclear program, only to later insist Tehran must "eliminate" its uranium enrichment.

Araghchi noted that, if the Trump administration has "constructive positions, we can hope to begin negotiations on the framework of a possible agreement." He added he will deliver a message from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his trip to Moscow this week.
