Iranian official: Israel deal marks new Nakba Day

EPA/STRINGER

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf described the peace agreement the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed with Israel as a move made by "treacherous rulers" that would from now on be treated as "official accomplices in all crimes committed by the criminal Zionists."

Qalibaf stressed such an act marked a new Nakba Day and therefore a betrayal of Palestine. Nakba, or "Catastrophe Day" is the term certain Muslim communities use to refer to the date Israel declared its independence in 1948.

Earlier this week, Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE signed a peace deal supervised by the United States aimed at normalization of their mutual diplomatic relations.
