The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied allegations that they targeted a civilian convoy attempting to leave northern Gaza as a precaution in anticipation of a likely ground offensive, CNN reported on Sunday.
The IDF had previously issued evacuation warnings to over half of Gaza's 2 million residents. Videos of extensive destruction and distressing scenes, including bodies, were shared, suggesting an attack on a route used for evacuation.
However, IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner clarified that the Israeli military did not strike the convoy on Salah Al-Deen street. Lerner noted that their observations suggested the explosion originated from below, indicating the possibility of an explosive device rather than an Israeli airstrike.
