The Ministry of Ecological Transition denied Minister's Roberto Cingolani statement in his Monday interview noting it "is misleading" and does not "correspond to the position expressed by Minister Cingolani who has never opened to payment in rubles."
The minister said in an interview with Politico, that companies should be allowed to pay for Russian gas in rubles as per Moscow's request, adding that companies could not "risk not paying in rubles."
Previously, the largest Italian oil and gas company Eni noted its inability to pay for Russian gas in rubbles as the contract specified "the settlements in euros." Earlier, Polish Climate Minister Anna Moskwa stated that the new sanctions packages should include a "specific and clear date and requirement for all countries" on the oil embargo against Russia.
