Japan's Kishida says rescue challenges persist after quake

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida emphasized the ongoing challenges in the aftermath of a massive earthquake that recently struck the country, acknowledging that numerous individuals remain trapped beneath collapsed structures.

With approximately 130 reports of people in need of rescue, he urged residents to exercise caution due to anticipated adverse weather conditions and potential aftershocks. Kishida said that while some roads have been cleared for larger vehicles, efforts to enhance accessibility to quake-affected regions persist.

Additionally, the prime minister announced the opening of certain sea routes to facilitate the delivery of aid, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing the urgent needs arising from the disaster.
