Retail sales in Japan increased 1.4% in August on a monthly basis, according to a report by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on Friday. Compared to August 2021, retail trade jumped 4.1%.
Medicine and toiletry stores saw sales soar 13.6% annually, followed by fuel at 10.8% and general merchandise at 10.1%. Motor vehicles and machinery and equipment saw a 6.3% and 6.5% drop in trade respectively.
