Jeffries 'convinced' Senate stopgap will pass in House

United States House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said on Friday that he is "convinced" the Senate's short-term government funding bill will pass in the House if it is put up for a vote. He said the bill "would certainly receive Democratic support and there are Republicans who have indicated they are prepared to support bipartisan legislation," he told CNBC, stressing the bill needs the backing of only six Republican representatives.

However, the bill has not yet been adopted by the Senate, although a vote could be held on Saturday in an effort to avert a government shutdown coming into effect on October 1. "My hope is that there's a bipartisan spending agreement that continues to work its way through the Senate. It would continue to fund the government in a way that provides economic wellbeing for the American people," Jeffries said.
