The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, known as the Kennedy Center, was evacuated on Thursday after the DC police received a bomb threat at 10:44 am ET this morning, a spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, the United States Park Police is working together with the department's Explosive Ordinance Division to investigate. The bomb threats were targeting the upcoming Shen Yun performances, according to the Kennedy Center's spokesperson.
The center recently came into focus after US President Donald Trump became its chairman after dismissing half of the appointed trustees, with his envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell appointed as the center's interim president.
