Explosions sounded on Wednesday morning in one of the central districts of the Ukrainian capital city, with an air alert activated for the entire region, Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko announced.
Klitschko said the Ukrainian Armed Forces have so far shot down 10 Iranian-made kamikaze drones of the Shahed-136 type and that more details on the shelling will be provided later.
Kiev Governor Oleksiy Kuleba said the drones were operated by Russian soldiers, condemning Moscow for continuing "energy terror" against Ukraine. Kuleba said although "most" of the unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down, the air alert will continue. "The danger remains. Stay in shelters."
