Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced on Saturday he is stepping down from his position amid the most recent allegations of his involvement in a corruption case.

Kurz said the claims of his involvement in bribery date back to 2016 and that he will continue to fight to prove his innocence. He also confirmed he will not be retiring completely from politics and will act as the People's Party's (OVP) club chairman at the parliament.

Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Schallenberg will take over the post of interim chancellor until a new one is elected.
