British Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng (pictured) held secret meetings with representatives of Saudi firms when he visited the kingdom under his previous role as business secretary, The Guardian reported Tuesday.
According to the report, Kwarteng had undisclosed encounters with the CEOs of Saudi Aramco, Sabic, and Alfanar, an industrial conglomerate. In contrast, the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy files do not contain any reference to such discussions.
Meetings with foreign government representatives do not have to be declared, but those with company directors do. A government spokesman said that an "administrative irregularity" had occurred.
