Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati (pictured) met with the United Kingdom's Defence Secretary John Healy on Monday and emphasized the importance of an "immediate ceasefire" between Israel and Hezbollah, according to a report by Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
During the meeting, Mikati expressed his gratitude to the UK for its "continuous support to the army and enhancing its expertise" and emphasized the importance of the role that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has in "maintaining stability in the south." He also said that "an immediate ceasefire" was a priority, as was "working with international parties to reach a diplomatic solution to fully implement Resolution 1701."
Two weeks ago, the Lebanese prime minister stated that the United States offered assurances to Lebanon that the Israeli attacks against Beirut will decrease and he also met United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken last Friday to discuss ending the conflict diplomatically.
