Hours after three known gunmen opened fire in Olympia shopping centre (pictured) in Munich, killing 8 and wounding 21 people, the GSG9, an elite German counter-terrorism unit, is leading the search for the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, witnesses provided some details to the German media about the suspected attackers. One witness told the broadcaster n-tv that he heard the attacker yelling angrily against foreigners. Previously, a witness video appeared, in which the witness – from a safe distance – tried to talk to the attacker. The attacker responded he was German, and media said he was speaking with a Bavarian accent.
Security council of the Bundestag (Parliament) will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday. The council, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, vice-chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, and ministers of foreign and interior affairs, justice, finance and development will discuss the attack.
