The Criminal trial of the Democratic Senator from New Jersey, Bob Menendez, has been set for May 6, 2024, US District Judge Sidney said in a hearing on Monday.

The development comes as political pressure has been mounting in the last weeks over accusations of bribery against the politician and his wife, Nadine Menendez. The senator denies the allegations and refuses to resign.

During today's hearing, Federal Prosecutor Paul Montelioni declared some of the evidence for the trial may be classified.

Senate accepts Menendez's resignation
The United States Senate had no objections on Tuesday to Senator Bob Menendez's decision to resign.Menendez's letter of resignation was read out on the Senate floor by the Senate chair.
