The number of users on Meta Platforms' new microblogging app Threads surpassed 100 million on Monday just five days after its launch, becoming the fastest online platform to reach that number.
The app, seen as a competitor to Twitter, launched late on Wednesday last week in more than 100 countries around the world.
Following the launch, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated the number of signups was "way beyond" the tech giants's expectations, while Twitter reportedly threatened to sue Meta, alleging the company intentionally assigned former Twitter employees to work on the "copycat" Threads app.
