Meta Platforms Inc. has ceased work on its own operating system that would have supported the company's virtual reality and augmented reality devices, The Information reported on Wednesday, citing two unnamed sources with knowledge of the issue.
Hundreds of employees have been working on the project for several years, according to the report.
When the company changed its name from Facebook to Meta, it said it would be "moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology."
