The gunman who killed 10 people and wounded other 20 in the mass shooting in Munich on Friday was an 18-year-old man from Munich, said the chief of Munich Police. He was of Iranian origin, and with dual – Iranian and German – citizenship. The motives of his shooting spree remain "completely unclear," since he was found dead after apparently shooting himself in the head. His body was found 1 kilometre from the shopping centre where he was attacked.
The Munich Police president Hubertus Andrae explained in a news conference that the man was considered to be the suspect "on the basis of witness reports and CCTV footage." The police believe nobody else was involved. Two other people who fled the scene of attack are now thought to have just ran away from the danger.
The Iranian man has lived in Munich for more than two years, and was not previously known to law enforcement. No links with terrorist groups have been found so far. He used a handgun, and not a rifle as earlier reported.
