NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg stressed on Wednesday that Russia should de-escalate tensions at the Ukraine border.

While both NATO and Russia agreed further dialogue is needed following today's bilateral meeting, Stoltenberg noted that "significant differences" remain between the two sides and that they "won't be easy to overcome."

Moscow requested that NATO halts its expansion and withdraw troops from eastern Europe, while the alliance noted its open-door policy would remain in effect.
