The National Basketball Association (NBA) is exploring investment opportunities in European basketball, engaging in discussions with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the sport's global governing body.
NBA’s Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum stated on Tuesday that these talks are still in the early stages but reflect the league's belief in the potential to grow the game in Europe. Tatum emphasized that basketball has an untapped market in the region, despite its existing popularity. However, no specific plans or timelines have been announced yet.
"There's no doubt that I think there is an opportunity for the game of basketball to continue to grow in Europe … So we just think there's an opportunity to have a better model for European basketball …. There's no time frame on it. There's no specifics to discuss today. But it's something that we're talking to FIBA and other stakeholders about in the marketplace," Tatum said according to AFP.
