Former Northern Ireland first minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner David Trimble died on Monday at the age of 77, his family shared in a statement.
"It is with great sadness that the family of Lord Trimble announce that he passed away peacefully earlier today following a short illness," the statement read.
Trimble won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998, jointly shared by Founder of the United Kingdom's Social Democratic and Labour Party laureate John Hume, for finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland.
