Japanese video game company Nintendo Co. Ltd. will gradually shift some production of its Switch console from China to Vietnam in the coming months, Nikkei reported on Monday.
At the moment, almost all Switches are produced by subcontracting firms in Mainland China, such as Taiwanese Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., better known as Foxconn Technology Group. Reportedly, Foxconn would retain the Nintendo contract and its Vietnamese facilities would resume at least a part of the ongoing production.
Previous media reports indicated that the Japanese multinational company would move some production of its gaming console to Southeast Asia in preparations for possible United States tariffs on Chinese-made electronics.
