Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. is recalling almost 128,000 vehicles in Russia as a result of an airbag issue, the country's Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology, Rosstandart, announced on Monday.
The safety watchdog said 127,738 Note and Tiida cars manufactured between 2008 and 2014 will be recalled, inspected and fixed if necessary. Rosstandart noted that the vehicles equipped with Takata airbags produced between 2005 and 2014 could overinflate and explode.
Earlier this year, the Japanese airbag manufacturer pleaded guilty to concealing the defect and the company agreed to pay $1 billion in a settlement in the United States after at least 17 people died as a result of the issue.
