Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya (pictured) noted on Sunday that failing to reach a trade deal in the Brexit negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom would only aggravate the situation that the continent found itself in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, describing the combined effect of the potential two crises as a "double whammy."
In an interview with Sky News, she affirmed that "for Spain, it is much better to see the UK leave with a deal" and added that a scenario in which an agreement has been reached would be "better for both" Brussels and London.
"We are already suffering from a huge impact of the pandemic and Brexit would just be a double whammy, and we want to avoid that," she concluded.
