The Paris Police Prefecture on Thursday announced it had banned the Yellow Vests movement's protest scheduled for Saturday citing fears of "public disorder."
The police published a list of areas where gatherings will be prohibited, which include Champs-Elysees, the National Assembly, Hotel Matignon, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Champ de Mars. It also warned any individual that disobeys with the ban would be charged with disturbing the public order.
The Yellow Vests were founded in November 2018 after the government announced it would raise fuel prices. It later evolved into a movement for economic justice, whose protests led to civil unrest that the media described as the worst since that of May 1968.
