Former United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the administration of US President Joe Biden for allegedly trying to dissuade House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from visiting Taiwan.

"I don’t agree with Speaker Pelosi very often, but she made it clear that she wanted to go visit, on her own, to visit Taiwan, an independent, sovereign nation. And now, the Biden administration is saying, ‘Well, maybe that’s not smart,'" Pompeo told WABC 77 AM radio.

After reports emerged Pelosi is planning to visit Taiwan, China slammed her plans and vowed a strong response. Media reports claimed the Biden administration is "quietly working to convince" to change her plans and Pelosi did not mention Taiwan in her Asia trip itinerary issued earlier in the day.
