Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday expressed Moscow's support for the African Union's initiative to become a permanent member of the Group of Twenty (G20).
"We hope that this decision will be made as early as September during the G20 summit in New Delhi," Putin said during a meeting with Comoran President and Chairperson of the African Union Azali Assoumani. "Russia is ready to do everything possible to promote the strengthening of the sovereignty of African states, to help Africa become one of the key partners of the multipolar world," Putin added.
Previously, United States President Joe Biden and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also supported the African Union's inclusion in the Group.
