Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to eliminate 10,000 federal jobs, consolidate agencies, and reshape the department's structure, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
According to the report, combined with earlier voluntary departures, the move will reduce HHS's workforce by one-quarter, to 62,000 employees. Key changes include closing five of ten regional offices and centralizing operations like HR, procurement, and policy planning.
Besides, Kennedy, a long-time critic of the agency's pandemic response and vaccine policies, aims to "realign the organization with its core mission." A new division, the Administration for a Healthy America, will centralize programs focused on chronic disease and low-income health resources.
