Conservative MP and chairman of the European Research Group (ERG) Jacob Rees-Mogg reaffirmed on Wednesday his support for Boris Johnson as the United Kingdom's next prime minister, saying that the former London mayor "will be a first-class prime minister and an inspired leader for this nation." Speaking at BBC Radio 4, one of the leading Tory Brexiters described Johnson as "a politican with a big character, not a grey, backroom operator."
Rees-Mogg went on to say that Johnson has a strategy for taking the country of the European Union, as well as the ability to "unite the party and make us electable."
In a speech marking the start of his Tory leadership campaign earlier today, Johnson stressed that the UK must leave the EU on or before October 31, adding that it would be "irresponsible" to rule out the option of no-deal Brexit. He pointed out that a further delay to Brexit would bring to power Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, whom he described as "a fundamental threat to our values and our way of life."
